"Iowa's Best Family Festival"

The 19th annual IOWA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL & Gathering o'Celts has been named 'Iowa's Best Family Fest' for the third year in a row. It returns to the shaded green lawns of Iowa County's -Middle Amana Park- in the heart of the Amana Colonies for all three days of Memorial Day Weekend (May 29/30/31st).

This is the region's celebration of European history and world culture presented as edutainment for all age groups. It brings to life the characters, theatrics and folk ways of the 13th to 17th centuries. With a cast of 200 costumed role-players, five stages of entertainment, three pavilion structures, two living history encampment areas and a huge equestrian amphitheater the festival draws professional performing troupes from all over the Midwest and beyond.

Besides all of the traditional entertainment treasures found at the event, each year, 2010 brings on a new Scottish royal court, a novel comedy stage show, an original magic show, Mulligan's Wee Bit o'Gulf, Medieval Challenge Hy-stryker, and an enhanced horseback jousting spectacle by Joust Evolution.

"We can't sit on our historical laurels," proclaims producer Gregory Schmidt. "Each year we're challenged to bring something significantly new to Iowa's Renaissance experience. Now that we are drawing regular visitors from all the bordering states, audiences expect more of us."

Part of that offering will be additional food vendors selling unique specialties and more artisan merchants selling rare hand-made goods. The beer garden will feature Amana favorites from Millstream Brewing and Iowa wines.

The children's realm will showcase faeries, story-tellers, sing-alongs, kiddie jousting on hobby horses, inter-active theater, dance lessons and craft-making.

The IOWA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL is being promoted as the event for officially celebrating the end of the Recession in Eastern Iowa.

Festival hours will run from 11am to 6pm on saturday, sunday & monday of the holiday weekend.

Admission at the gate will be $10 for adults, $6 for kids from 6 to 14, with children free. There are group rates available and parking is free.
